What is Dog Listening?

In the most basic terms Dog Listening is using the dogs own language to communicate.

If you think about it how often is a dog allowed to be a dog these days, we expect and try to change the nature of our furry friends everyday, although we would allow any other animal to do exactly what there meant to do. If your cat comes in with a bird ‘Yes’ you would be upset but you would say “Well it’s a cat, that’s what they do” Dog listening says “It’s a dog, that’s what they do”

By watching how Wolfs, Wild Dogs, Dingos and the canine family act in there natural environment allows us to see that without human intervention their world works perfectly well, you will never find a wolf with separation anxiety or a wild dog with a barking problem, or even a dingo with a digging problem nor will you ever see a wild animal overweight – EVER. Imagine if you took a Great Dane from Ireland and a Poodle from Japan and put them in a room together would they be able to communicate with each other?   Yes of course they would they both speak dog.

So by studying wolves we can then use the language that they use with each other and bring it into our homes.

Dog Listening is all about leadership and how to communicate to your dog that you are capable of being the leader of your pack, meaning that you are the strongest, fittest, most intelligent and most experienced this is done without any aggression, force or gadgets. Once your dog has elected you as leader your dog will be calm and happy taking away their status as leaders will also take away with it responsibility of having to be a leader in a world they do not understand. When dogs are given the role of leader (which you may not even know is what you have done) they can not cope, therefore they will act out to the best of their knowledge and ability to try to make things right – this is when you see ‘bad behaviour’ they just don’t know what else to do.

Dog Listening is not something you do to your dog – it is quite simply a lifestyle you have with your dog.
